So, it has been a crazy two weeks! Things are still crazy and I still don't have a kitchen... but it has gotten a lot better since my last post. I haven't had the time to really sit down at the computer and write a post, but I have been keeping up with pics on Flickr. So for full details check that out.
Wow, I started last week with a gutted, bare to the bones kitchen. I now have a new kitchen with walls, a new window, new flooring and am about to get tile counter tops! I knew that things were getting better when I didn't need shoes to go to the fridge any more. It has been quite the exhausting time getting to this point though.
I have to have a moment of praise for Dave;
He may be a little insane but he really knows how to get things done! We have been working full days, every day since last Monday night. I have been working part time, but Dave has been home every day, getting things done. He is obsessed with completing this project. He only took two weeks off work, so he knew that by today things had to be functional. They, unfortunately, aren't but they are really close.
The poor guy has run himself ragged getting to this point. He will wake up every morning at 8:00 to get started and won't stop until I force him to, normally around 9:00pm, but sometimes he pushes it to 12:00. Dave is not the kind of guy that putters, he works really HARD the whole time he is working. By the end of the day he is so exhausted his feet physically hurt, but he is so stressed he needs to watch a movie in to fall asleep. He also is really good with electrical and is getting the hang of plumbing, so his knowledge has been incredibly help full. Without him doing the electrical we would have had to hire someone (way out of our budget). But he is able to do it, and he stays up all night getting it done. He really is quite the guy!
(OK, so I realize that may have been just a tad sappy, but over the last two weeks I have really appreciated all the work he has done.)
We have both worked really hard, and with lots of help from friends things are finally taking shape...
This is where we started...
Then there were walls...

And this is how I left my kitchen this morning...

I spent most of the morning cutting tiles, so we could return the tile saw before we had to pay for another day's rental. It is all cut and laid out, ready to be mortared and possibly grouted tonight.
Dave's dad will be in tomorrow to help with the painting. That means that tonight I have to finish final coat of drywall mudding... Any one want to keep me company and give me some good knit talk while I work???

Mortared, grouted, AND mudding? Way to lay on the jargon. You sound so... Trading Spaces-y or something.
Wish I could keep you company tomorrow, but work calls. (Demands, really, if you want to get down to it.)
Wow, did you guys do your own drywall & mudding???!! Super kudos to you two! My hubby and I got to that point in our reno (we had three rooms to mud, two to put up the drywall on the walls) and said to heck with this and finally hired someone. It took a big bite out of our budget, but it was worth it. There is quite a bit of satisfaction in doing the project yourselves though, isn't there?! My hubby is pretty handy too. Hoping he gets our main bathroom finished today.
Thanks for the congrats too by the way! And yes, I'm 10 wks. Well, 11 tomorrow!
